WASHINGTON – He was coming off a latest World Series success and was going from one Nationwide League East group to a different after signing a three-year free-agent contract.
Whereas Max Scherzer received a World Collection title with the Nationals in 2019 and is now with the New York Mets, the situation was just a bit bit totally different in 2016.
Daniel Murphy, a house run star for the Mets within the 2015 World Collection towards Kansas Metropolis, signed a three-year deal with the Nationals in 2016 and was launched to the media the primary week of January that 12 months after he got here to phrases a couple of weeks earlier.
“We ran down a brief checklist of golf equipment, and Washington was one of many locations we wished to go,” Murphy informed the media that day at the bottom flooring of Nationals Park. “We’re very acquainted with the division. It’s East Coast. Florida Spring Coaching is 2 hours from our house in Jacksonville. … Either side felt this was a superb match.”

“I’ve seen loads of Daniel Murphy, imagine me, as a basic supervisor — usually from the opposite facet of the sphere,” Nationals basic supervisor Mike Rizzo stated that day. “He’s a participant that performs the sport the fitting means. We love his perspective, his grit. When the intense lights — not solely in New York Metropolis — are on, [Murphy] shines the brightest.”
Murphy was a standout in faculty at his hometown Division I Jacksonville in Florida. Throughout his faculty days, he performed two summers for Luray within the Valley Baseball League. Considered one of his teammates in Luray was Brian Bocock, a local of Harrisonburg, Virginia who performed shortstop within the majors for the Giants and Phillies.
Murphy was drafted out of school by the Mets in 2006 and made his Main League debut with New York in 2008.
He hit a homer in six straight video games within the postseason for the Mets in 2015.

The left-handed-hitting second baseman was an All-Star for the Nationals in 2016 and 2017, and led the Nationwide League in doubles every season.
He hit .347 and .322 in his first two full seasons with Washington.
Murphy was batting .300 for the Nationals in 2018 when he was traded at the deadline to the Cubs. He completed the season with Chicago, then performed for the Colorado Rockies in 2019 and 2020.
He hit .236 in 40 video games for the Rockies in 2020 and retired after the season. Murphy turns 37 on April 1.
